One of my friends, Mike, owns a body shop. In a "services" trade-off, I helped install a new engine in his 1968 Camaro. In turn, he agreed to try to take the major dents out of the roof of my '39 Coupe.

Mike worked the metal back to its original shape using selected hammer blows at strategic spots and general pressure upward. He continued to work the metal to the original curvature and was successful in getting it very, very close.

A couple skim coats of filler completed the repair. This picture shows the un-sanded filler.

Another angle of the same work.....

I was fortunate that the damage did not extend down into the window or door frames. All the bent metal was up on top.

We moved the body outside where Mike used his magic touch to get the roof lines right where they need to be.

My friend, Gregg, sits in the "driver's seat" urging me to get the car finished so we can drive it!

There is other body work that I will have to do to get things finished out before I can consider painting. Mike had taken a break during Christmas to do some personal fun jobs and he squeezed this bit of work in for me. The body is now back in my garage for the winter.
