This photo is from 1931 and shows the intersection of Beechmont Avenue (looking east toward Mount Washington) and Eastern Avenue, which is mainly cobblestone with streetcar tracks in the paved center section. A police officer is helping control traffic here to help the photographer do his job. A short distance to the east are the railroad crossing gates (in their up positions). For the most part, the buildings on the right hand side of Beechmont were removed to make room for the structural supports of the new viaduct roadway.
