Additional Photo Information This aerial view of Mount Washington, taken in 1959, is looking west. Beechmont Avenue is intersected by Corbley in the right side of the photo. Alfieri's Pharmacy and Harold's Bar & Grill are at the northwest corner of Beechmont and Corbley. Just to the right of these two is the big old fancy two story building that housed a doctor's office (Dr Jeanne Nitchells) and several apartments. The empty northeast corner of the same intersection will soon have a new bank, Eagle Savings Association, the next year. Another interesting thing is the fairly new alignment of the corner of Corbley and Sutton Avenue (upper middle of photo). The original 90 degree angle is visible, but the road was given a gentle curve to facilitate traffic in that area. Also, in the upper left is the Methodist Church at Campus Lane. Looking down Campus, you see the empty lot that is soon to become the location of the new Mount Washington Post Office. In this photo, the office is still in the narrow building on Corbley, just east of the intersection of Beechmont and Corbley. |
